EFF and BlogginG?
Posted on July 29th, 2008 in Tech | No Comments »
So I always knew that the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) was out there fighting for the good guys, but I never realized they have some good information for Bloggers related to legal information. You can check it out using the image link below.
Bow

So I finally ordered a new bow after trying many. Its tuff making the right call being a new bow user. I probably should went with something like a Bowtech Guardian or Truth2, but I took the plunge on a DXT.
I also heard about a local tree stand company I’m gonna look into for a ladder stand called Family Traditions . Will be checking them out soon I think. Purchased a Equalizer climber and tested it out, works nicely.

Platte River Camping

July 18-20, 2008
We went camping at Platte River National Campground Friday through Sunday. We took Friday off of work and drove up just south of Empire, MI. We met some friends, Charlie and Amy, up there and stayed in a walk-in campsite.
On Friday, after we got settled in and set up camp and ate lunch, we all went to North Bar Lake to go swimming. North Bar Lake was neat. You had to walk down a path to get back to the lake which was just on the other side of of a sand dune from Lake Michigan. After dinner, we walked down to the beach from the campsite and watched the sunset.
On Saturday, after breakfast, we went on a 12.5 mile canoe trip down the Upper Platte River. It was a pretty fast moving river and took about 3 hours and 15 minutes to finish. After a late lunch, we went down to Lake Michigan where the Platte River runs into the lake and then proceeded on to the Scenic Drive. We enjoyed a nice round of Sequence after dinner.
On Sunday, after packing up, we enjoyed a bath in the lake before we met up with Tim and Katie for an afternoon of fishing on Mud Lake. We ended up getting home around 9:20 ish on Sunday night.

PBS Series on Economics and Global Market
Posted on July 17th, 2008 in Uncategorized | No Comments »
PBS has a great series called “Commanding Heights” online that provides a better understanding of globaliztion and economic development. I believe its important for us all to become better educated in economics in order to vote wisely in the coming elections and to help us understand why our economy is in the sitution it is. I’m not saying I know the golden answer or anything, but being better educated on the issues and past history always helps.
Group Policy and Wireless

So recently at work, we had to figure out a way to stop users from using the Windows XP Wireless Zero Config to add open wireless access points using Group Policy.
As many others have found out, options are limited related to stopping users from using the Wireless zero config, however, by creating bogus network settings for a network with the same SSID as your trying to deny users access to, you essentially block them from being able to connect.
Vista does have some rather handy GPO to actually block SSIDs

We are still around. We’ve been doing quite a bit of camping so we’ve been gone a lot. We’ve learned a lot about buying a house the last few months. We were really interested in one , but the location just was too risky. We continue to watch and save. I’m gonna pick up bow hunting this fall, should have a new bow in the next month or so. Nicole started a CT job and is still training.
Here are some pics from camping.
