So being the good sys admin I always em (ha) – I’ve been running as a normal user and using run as when needed. Of course its annoying to have to go to the command line so I had created some vbs scripts to kick off certian things I use that had to run under my management account.
Better, but still not good enough. Last night when reading a diff post about best Apps of the year – they were talking about Launchy , a cool little app I tried at home, but couldn’t find much use for – but then it hit me. What if I could use Launcy to kick off all my runas stuff to quickly run Management Accounts as privledged user .
Sure enough Launchy includes a plugin called runner where you can add anything pretty much. Launchy is now one of my fav apps at work

I’ve been using Ubuntu for about 6 months. It was a good relationship at first, then it started to crap on me. Wierd issues here and there, to much compiz stuff going on. Firefox crashes, pidgin crashes. I want my long lost Gentoo back. Long live Gentoo!! The control, the freedom, the power.
. .. ok, maybe a little much

So many of my freinds and what no often ask me about certifications being that I’m a sys admin. I always tell them that certifications have become less and less important and experience more and more important. Brian Madden has a great post here about his CCA experience. I think it really drives my point home.
BTW – I got a 95% or so on my CCA exam. Does that mean I know Citrix better then Brian M? NNNOOO WAY
So I always knew that the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) was out there fighting for the good guys, but I never realized they have some good information for Bloggers related to legal information. You can check it out using the image link below.

So recently at work, we had to figure out a way to stop users from using the Windows XP Wireless Zero Config to add open wireless access points using Group Policy.
As many others have found out, options are limited related to stopping users from using the Wireless zero config, however, by creating bogus network settings for a network with the same SSID as your trying to deny users access to, you essentially block them from being able to connect.
Vista does have some rather handy GPO to actually block SSIDs

Now that I’ve moved to residential DSL, I no longer ahve some of the luxeries I once did. One of these was relaying outbound SMTP to my ISP for delivery. My new service require SSL SMTP and auth… so, I’ll be dropping Domino as an MTA and going back to good ole postfix. Rock On Postfix !
